Lose Baby Weight
After nine months of anticipation, swollen joints, and inexplicable food cravings, you’re holding your bundle of joy, thinking to yourself, this is as good as it gets. At the same time you’re looking at your body thinking you have to lose baby weight now.
As you set off to lose the pregnancy weight, make sure to keep these very basic, but nonetheless essential, do’s and don’ts in mind.
DOs
• Do be patient and realistic about your goals. Don’t forget that you’ve had 9 months to put on the pounds. Therefore, you can’t expect to lose the baby weight in just 4 weeks. Set achievable goals, such as losing 2 lbs. a week
• Do start exercising as soon as you can. Walking is always a cheap and effective option. Start off slowly – even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. Within a few days you’ll be able to add on a few more minutes and before you know it, you’ll be doing a brisk 30-minute walk
• Do breastfeed. Not only is it good for the baby, but it will help you lose baby weight faster. Why? Well, it just so happens that breastfeeding burns about 500 calories a day. So get rid of that bottle and share a special moment with your newborn
• Do get enough sleep. Many new moms tend to be so overwhelmed by all that comes with having a baby that they forget to get enough sleep. Don’t fall into this trap. Focus on this: when you’re tired, your body releases hormones like cortisol, which actually encourage weight gain. So catch up on those zzzz’s!

DON’TS
• Don’t continue eating for two. If you’re serious about wanting to lose baby weight, you should immediately start reducing your food intake down to a healthy level – about 1800 to 2000 calories a day
• Don’t crash diet. Rather, focus on eating light but filling foods such as fruits, vegetables, yogurt, milk, beans, and fish. And don’t forget to drink at least 8 glasses of water. It fills you up and has exactly 0.0 calories
• Don’t go it alone. If you find it difficult to motivate yourself to eat healthy meals or to exercise, then get a trainer at your local gym. Hook up with a friend for regular walks. Join a weight loss program and attend meetings regularly. Being accountable to someone else will make it less likely for you to call off Operation Lose Baby Weight
• Don’t use your new bundle of joy, or lack of time, as an excuse to avoid exercise. Ask your hubby to look after the young one while you go for a swim. Put your baby into a stroller and head out for a fat-burning walk. If you have plenty of interruptions during the day, then head out at dawn for a brisk walk. No time to get to the gym? Then get a set of fitness DVDs and sculpt your own buns of steel at home
